Data is TODAY the world’s most valuable resource… not something I’ve simply coined up but all evidence points in this direction. Lets take a closer look at the facts—Alphabet (Google’s parent company), Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Microsoft—look unstoppable. They are the five most valuable listed firms in the world. Their profits are surging: they collectively racked up over $25bn in net profit in the first quarter of 2017… have you heard or seen anything else close to it?And corporations aren’t just sitting on that data: they’re monetizing it — selling the specifics of our digital identities to the highest bidder, whether it’s a marketing company looking to mine data for fuel to target their next campaign, or a home insurance company looking for ways to increase their premiums.
